Functional reconstruction

Facial paralysis surgery

Facial paralysis can affect eye closure, smile, speech and social confidence. The choice of reconstruction depends on cause, duration and muscle viability.

01

Functional assessment

Resting symmetry, movement, eye closure and regional function are assessed. Neurophysiological studies are reviewed where indicated.

02

Methods

Depending on the case, nerve repair, nerve grafting, smile reanimation, static procedures and soft-tissue correction may be considered. This is not a universal treatment list.
