A career in facial surgery

Dr Visaitova graduated from I. M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in 2004 with a degree in General Medicine and completed her maxillofacial surgery residency at CNIIS in 2006. From the outset, her clinical work has focused on complex facial anatomy and situations where treatment must preserve both function and appearance.

Research and fat grafting

Dr Visaitova’s PhD research examined facial volumetric contouring with a patient’s own fat. This work shaped a systematic understanding of volume, soft-tissue quality, scarring and staged restoration — particularly important in reconstructive surgery.

Facial nerve and movement

A particular clinical interest is facial nerve anatomy, facial muscle biomechanics and restoration of movement. Planning considers not only imaging and diagnosis, but also eye closure, smile, resting and dynamic symmetry, and tissue condition after previous surgery.

Approach to patient care

Before surgery, the purpose of treatment, alternatives, limitations and potential risks are discussed in detail. Medical records, CT or MRI, pathology and previous operative notes are especially important in complex and revision cases. A final decision is made only after an individual consultation.

Her research focused on facial fat grafting and restoration of volume using a patient’s own tissue. This informs the treatment of tissue deficiency, scarring and asymmetry.

Facial nerve anatomy and facial muscle function are particular areas of interest. Reconstruction should restore not only coverage, but also movement, symmetry and appearance.
